Summer STEAM Institute
This August, the USSCLB and Dramatic Results welcomed over 100 incoming 5th and 6th grade GATE/EXCEL students to the waters of Alamitos Bay for 5 days of design thinking and of course, sailing!
All of these students were hand-selected by their teachers to receive scholarships for this 1-week immersive and collaborative experience. Through hands-on art and design projects, students were able to experience real-life applications of STEAM subjects and academic concepts – in a fun and engaging way!
Students studied a variety of topics such as buoyancy and density, wind power and aerodynamics, and marine biology and the environment!
Here are some of the photos and videos from that camp!
Students also got the chance to meet their new 6th grade teachers before they go back to school. Additionally, we had a visit from Representative Alan Lowenthal and President of CSULB Jane Conoley, received Certificates of Achievement from Senator Lena A. Gonzalez, and letters from the office Senator Dianne Feinstein!
