Summer STEAM Institute 2021

After a 1 year hiatus, our 2021 Summer STEAM Institute, in partnership with Dramatic Results, made a return to the US Sailing Center (Long Beach)!

The series of summer programs are a part of The Art of Building a City (ABC) Project, a 4-year collaborative experiment working to create solutions to keep gifted students who attend schools in underserved neighborhoods engaged and achieving.

The ABC Summer program series began in June with the Wet Wednesday regatta series, where the kids raced on Catalina 37 keelboats against teams of adults. There, 7th and 8th-grade Long Beach students collaborate and develop the skills to be safe and effective sailors while promoting teamwork, cooperation, and communication.

Then, starting on July 26, rising Long Beach 6th graders met at our Long Beach facility for one-week sessions to learn how to skipper 20ft keelboats, as well as learning to address global warming and climate change issues by designing solutions for threats facing urban areas in the year 2221.

Big thanks to Dramatic Results for their continued partnership with us! We hope that the kids had an unforgettable learning experience!
